It is the traveler's responsibility to properly package all perishable items. To maximize freshness and quality, raw meat and seafood must be able to withstand a minimum of 48 hours in transit without refrigeration. Fish and raw game meat may be accepted as baggage if packaged in a leak proof container (not styrofoam). Gel ice is recommended. Up to 5 Ibs. of dry ice is acceptable, but dry ice must be declared at check in and labeled on the package. Wet ice is not allowed. Freeze or chill meat and seafood thoroughly before packaging for optimal final destination temperature. These items are checked at your own risk for spoilage.
Antlers and horns will be accepted as FREIGHT ONLY, once they are properly packaged to prevent body fluids, parasites, and foul odor escaping. The skull must be wrapped and antler tips covered. Antlers and horns subject to aircraft load limitations and are shipped when space is available, weight must not exceed 100Lbs and the linear dimensions (length + width not to exceed 115 inches.
The Federal Lacey Act requires labeling on all seafood, game, and animal antlers/horns shipped across state lines. PenAir stocks labels at our ticket counters, which must be completed with your name and address, the commodity of fish or wildlife, the specific species, and the weight of each container.
The State of Alaska requires raw, unprocessed or unmounted big game trophies shipped out of state to have a completed "Big Game Trophy Export" tag. This includes antlers/horns, hide of brown or black bear and "capes" (head and shoulders or front quarter of any big game animal). This tag and other specific information may be obtained from the State of Alaska, Dept. of Fish and Game, Wildlife Information.
