Each piece of checked baggage must weigh 50 pounds (23kg) or less and not exceed a maximum total linear dimension (length + width + height) of 62 inches (158 cm). View our Bag Fees page for more information regarding carry-on and checked baggage fees, rules, prohibited items, firearms, sporting equipment, and more.
Bag rules on this website only apply when traveling on PenAir. If your itinerary includes travel on another airline, please check that airline's website for their specific baggage rules.
All checked baggage on PenAir must be processed according to Airport check-in times to ensure your bags are loaded onto your flight. All baggage is subject to inspection. Government safety and security regulations apply to PenAir’s Contract of Carriage.
Baggage connection to other and/or partner airlines is subject to the connecting carrier’s baggage fees and policies in addition to PenAir’s baggage charges.
Checked Bag Sizes
All checked baggage is subject to the following limitations: Each piece of checked baggage must weigh 50 pounds (23kg) or less and not exceed a maximum total linear dimension (length + width + height) of 62 inches (158 cm).
Overweight & Oversized Baggage
Baggage weighing over 100 pounds and/or over 115"/292cm will not be accepted as checked baggage. Any items over 100 pounds must travel as cargo and be processed through the PenAir Cargo Department.
See the Sports Equipment page for any special charges for traveling with sporting equipment.
Excess baggage is transported on a space available basis. Additional charges apply for all bags over the allowable limits. Acceptance of excess baggage does not guarantee that it will travel on the next departing flight. Excess bags must adhere to the same bag sizes (see above) as all checked bags. See Fees page for excess bag fees.
Transferring Bags to Connecting Airlines
In order for your bags to be transferred to a connecting airline both airlines must have a baggage agreement. PenAir currently has agreements with: Alaska Airlines, Delta, United, American Airlines and Ravn. These are the only airlines that we can transfer bags to from any PenAir hub station. If the airline you are connecting to is not on the list above, you must pick up your bags at your connecting airport and re-check your bags to your final destination. Fees may be collected from each point of departure when checking your bags in.
A note to passengers traveling to our Alaska destinations:
During various times of year, we experience a high volume of passengers traveling with checked baggage. In order to meet the weight and balance requirements of the aircraft, it may be necessary for some baggage to be transported on a separate flight from the passenger. Due to the possibility of baggage arriving separately, we encourage our passengers to take this into consideration when packing and planning for your trip. Whenever possible, please plan to carry any essential items that you will need (such as a change of clothes, medication, toiletries, etc.) in your carry-on or gate checked baggage. Please see our carry-on baggage policy for more information.
